The woman was sentenced to one month imprisonment suspended for 12 months and fined $2,000.
The incident took place at a restaurant, namely "美 德 茶 餐 廳" in Wai Yip Street, Kwun Tong on August 17, 2010. The woman assaulted the TCI when a team of inspectors was inspecting the restaurant premises. The woman was subsequently arrested and charged with assault by the Police.
A spokesman for the Department of Health urged the public to observe the smoking ban requirements and to co-operate with law-enforcement officers.
"Intimidation or use of violence against enforcement officers is a serious offence and carries serious legal consequences," he said.
