Tung Wah Group of Hospitals Integrated Centre on Smoking Cessation

Being pioneer in provision of community-based smoking cessation service, Tung Wah Group of Hospitals Integrated Centre on Smoking Cessation was established on 1 January 2009 with the support from the Department of Health. The smoking cessation service is run by a professional multi-disciplinary team consisting of medical doctors, nurses, clinical psychologists, counselors and social workers who provides a combination of pharmacotherapy and counseling, rendering comprehensive assessment and treatment in both physical and psycho-social aspects. Individualized treatment plan is formulated in collaboration with clients based on smokers’ medical history, smoking pattern, nicotine dependency, social support and motivation to quit. Various forms of nicotine replacement therapy can help relieve withdrawal symptoms of smokers while varenicline can be prescribed to appropriate smokers to help reduce the cravings for smoking.

The service centres are easily accessible, locating at major transportation routes and business / residential areas. Equipped with comfortable settings, the centres provide a cozy, private and client-centered environment for smokers to discuss their quit plan.

All smoking cessation counselors and medical personnel who provide smoking cessation service received training by Mayo Clinic Nicotine Dependence Center of the United States. Staff at supervisory level was accredited as Certified Tobacco Treatment Specialist and Trainer by the Mayo Clinic Nicotine Dependence Centre, US.
