Hotline helps stub out smoking

20 March 2016

Quitting smoking can be a stressful time - for the smoker and their families. Many smokers describe kicking the habit as one of the toughest challenges of their lives and often seek extra support to get them through it.

The Department of Health has been running the 24-hour Integrated Smoking Cessation Hotline since 2001 to provide professional support and advice to help smokers quit for good and over the past decade it has helped an average of 11,000 smokers per year.

News.gov.hk spoke to a former smoker who sought help from a smoking cessation clinic and successfully quit smoking, and a Tobacco Control Office Nursing Officer who explained how they help smokers take the first step towards a smoke-free life.

The story appears on news.gov.hk today (March 20) in both text and video format.
