16 Jul 2009

The Kwun Tong Magistrates' Courts today (July 16) ordered a 46-year-old man to perform 80 hours of community service for assaulting two Tobacco Control Inspectors (TCIs) of the Department of Health.

The incident took place in Kam Fung Street Sitting-out Area, Wong Tai Sin, on November 27, 2008, when the man was found smoking in the public pleasure ground.??He refused to co-operate and assaulted two TCIs. He was subsequently arrested and charged by police.

A Department of Health spokesman urged the public to observe the smoking ban requirements and to co-operate with law-enforcement officers.

"Intimidation of or use of violence on enforcement officers is a serious offence and carries serious legal consequences," the spokesman said.
