Woman convicted of assaulting tobacco control inspector

15 June 2011

A 41-year-old woman was convicted by the Kowloon City Magistrates' Court today (June 15) of assaulting a Tobacco Control Inspector (TCI). She was sentenced to 140 hours of Community Service Order.

The incident took place in "Mix Bar" in Tsim Sha Tsui on July 13, 2010. The woman assaulted a TCI when a team of inspectors was inspecting the premises. She was subsequently arrested and charged with common assault by the Police.

A spokesman for the Department of Health urged the public to observe smoking ban requirements and to cooperate with law enforcement officers.

"Intimidation or use of violence on enforcement officers is a serious offence and carries serious legal consequences," the spokesman said.
